1/2 a 1/2

-So I did this:

Now I know I can run a 10K. I also know that a half marathon would be twice what I ran yesterday, and the mere thought makes my body convulse with pain. The last half mile includes a killer hill in my neighborhood, and considering I'd run 6 miles without walking, there was no way I was going to pass up the chance to run it for the first time ever. Appropriately, the lyrics playing for me were "pain...pain...pain."

-One more shameless plug of free advertising here, and then I promise I will be done. I am in love with the functionality of my long-sleeve running top, and I can't wait to receive my second one in this color on Tuesday, which concludes my birthday money/gift card spending. Yes, it's a bit of an expensive addiction, and I curse the friend who caused it. Don't do that "I thought she couldn't afford it" thing, though. In order to subsidize it, I sell stuff on eBay, and I sell my organs. The good news is I am down to ONE guilty pleasure. I don't even need Starbucks anymore - I prefer brewing my own coffee in the French press that Andy surprised me with for my birthday.

-The FedEx guy should show up on Tuesday, smack in the middle of nap time. The last two deliveries, I put a bright orange sticky note on the door that says "Dear FedEx: Please drop the package without ringing the doorbell. THANKS!!" Super-big smiley, of course. Apparently it was not worded clearly enough, so I am taking suggestions.

-Here is what I eat these days: I have a bowl of dry Wheat Chex in the morning. For lunch, I have a plate of spring mix with oil and vinegar or balsamic, carrots, and multi-grain pita chips and hummus. I usually allow myself something sweet midday, and then dinner might be a slight Caloric splurge. It feels good to eat healthier than I did when I ate lunch out every day. It's a huge departure from my college eating habits. From a culinary perspective, among others, I had a GREAT time. I had several different mealtime friend groups. I love friends, and I love eating, and considering our unlimited college meal plans allowed for it, I would go to lunch twice and dinner twice with different groups of friends. I used to love piling up a plate with a croissant, roast beef, mushrooms, white American cheese and onions and handing it to sweet Debra with lots of gold teeth to grill into a Philly Cheese for me. I'd have two desserts at every meal, usually a piece of cake and a bowl of ice cream loaded with sprinkles. That's like 8 desserts a day. I wonder what my daily food intake will be in 10 years? 7 nuts?

-Speaking of, it occurred to me that the 9-year anniversary of our college graduation is coming up in December. NINE.

-I love Trader Joe's. If you have one nearby, here are a few favorites I think you should try, in order of urgency: pumpkin butter (on multi-grain bread, many times per day), veggie and flax seed tortilla chips, gnocchi di gorgonzola (frozen), sweet potato gnocchi (also frozen), cilantro salad dressing, pre-peeled garlic. I got a pound of frozen ahi tuna steaks for $5.49 last week, and today I seared them rare. Not quite as high quality as going to a fancy restaurant for it, but definitely economical. Mmm!
