Diaper Cake Fun
I need your honest opinion.
This is a diaper cake that I made for Cindy's shower. In a gross injustice to Cindy, the diaper cake that I made this past weekend is SO much cuter! This was not intentional - just a result of having a little more experience under my belt. I can't post a pic just yet because the shower I made it for has not yet happened. It involves a little more color, some zebra print, and a bow. Need I say more?
I have this urge to make a couple more diaper cakes and put them out there for anyone to buy should they be in the market for a diaper cake. The problem is that they are so expensive to make. I tallied everything up, and it's a $75+ project. This includes a $20 pack of diapers, 3 receiving blankets (which I can't for the life of me find for less than $10), and a little ~$12 blankie animal, paci's, and 2 bottles up the middle of the cake. The plastic plate that it sits on is $4, and the hair ties that I use to roll the diapers are $3 per cake. I believe in MAM products, so the bottles ($10 for 2) and paci's ($5 per 2-pack) run a little expensive, too (I will probably put the paci's in the middle in the bottles in the future because, though I want to accessorize the cake, I am finding that less is best). I can't find any ways to cut the cost, other than ordering diapers on Subscribe & Save via Amazon or compromising on the quality and/or cuteness of the items I use. I looked at Dollar Tree today, but no luck.
So in order to make it a worthwhile little thing I do every now and then, I'd only be making a little money on what I'd charge over $75 (or really $80 because I don't think I am accounting for tax). I don't necessarily want to do it for the money, just the fun of watching it all come together. I would need to recoup the costs, though. Would YOU pay even that for a diaper cake, even though it includes several pertinent items?
