Hyphen Bullets

- We went for our 6-month photo shoot today + family pictures. Our photographer was SO good, she turned my hopelessly shy son into a hyperactive, manic nutcase. I was feeling very optimistic as she immediately brought him out of his shell, laughing and giggling. At first I found it cute as he'd get into position and then at the last minute, as soon as she was about to take the perfect picture of the two of them, he'd fall to the floor in fits of laughter. At first. Oh well...I suppose the alternative is a million pictures of him twisting his lips between his fingers.

- Totally potty trained! I take that back - 99% potty trained. The final 1% is on Andy and me, who have not yet built up the courage to put him to bed without a Pull-Up.

- Macy's starting to emerge as my little affectionate baby in a way that Liam never was. You'd never really see Liam put his hands in the air begging for you to pick him up, and the only time he'd ever, EVER let me or anyone else cuddle with him was when he was under the weather (luckily, that has changed in the last few months). Macy's constantly "asking" to be picked up, and she LOVES to be kissed on the cheek. It's her Zen - if you rapid-fire kiss on her cheek, this wave of calm comes over her. The other morning, I was kissing at her from about 4 inches away, and she promptly put her forehead on my lips so those kisses would not go to waste.

- I found "the" jeans. You know, the ones that come along about once every 3 years. This time, I found them for $19.99 at Target (Mossimo skinny jeans). I bought 2 pairs to tide me over to the next time. I love them. I'm actually not one to hate my thighs and butt - I'm perfectly fine with them. I am, however, self-conscious about everything from my belly to my neck. My thighs and butt don't grow, but my spare tire and the backs of my arms know no bounds.

- I think shoe stores are carpeted for a reason. If you could try on shoes and have any idea how LOUD they are when you walk, half their shoes would probably be unsellable. I was self-conscious for awhile about how loud my new short boots are on hard surfaces, but now I just embrace it.

- We have a ploffice! Following a successful Craigslist transaction where we got rid of a huge desk, chair and bookcase, we transformed our office into a playroom/office on Monday. It was a HUGE job. However, we filled my parents' Tahoe with stuff for Goodwill and filled 4 huge trash bags with trash. We needed a corner of the world for the kids (and all their Christmas toys), and now they have one. The good thing about not having a whole lot of space is that it forces us to get rid of stuff we don't use. If we had more space, we'd just fill it and be in the same predicament. It's such a great feeling seeing all that stuff leave the house. Just give it one more birthday - it'll feel like it never happened!

- I don't know what it is, but I have found lately that regardless of what I am doing, I WILL start a chain reaction that sends about 5 things to the floor. I have this same thought about 10 times a day, so I know I am not just imagining it. This evening I was holding Macy and breaking off a piece of chocolate, but ended up crumbling it up and sending a shower of chocolate pieces to the floor. Earlier I was filling a glass with ice and knocked the little plate out of the bottom of the water dispenser. I pull one thing out of the pantry and the cereal falls to the floor. Yesterday morning I knocked my hand cream off my nightstand, which apparently I had not closed. I drop EVERYTHING, and usually when there is a baby in my arms. Luckily I don't drop the baby.

- 4 more days of staycation. After recovering from all that work in the ploffice, I'm finally starting to feel the "cation" part!
