Today we had our new mattress delivered. It wasn't so much a luxury purchase as it was a necessity. My previous mattress had an embarrassingly long stint. There was probably the equivalent of three "me's" living inside of it in dead skin cell format.
Somehow I ended up getting a little nostalgic. It's not that I want to go back to a time when I didn't have my precious little blessings in my life or when Andy worked overnight on the weekends for CNN. It's just that when I was in that time of my life, going to bed in an empty house, I would often wash my sheets in Snuggle Lavender-Vanilla detergent and dry them with dryer sheets of the same scent. I'd time it so I'd be taking them out of the dryer and putting them back on right at the time that I was snuggling up in bed with a book.
Ahh - serenity. Now, it's more like "SERENITY NOW!!"
I just put the sheets in the dryer so that I can kinda-sorta re-live that, except I have a sick husband, no books other than the ones that are still en route from Amazon, Lavender-Sandalwood dryer sheets with no corresponding detergent, super-asthmatic lungs that probably can't even handle the scents, and a prayer (or several) that the kids don't have a night like they did last night.
As I wait for the sheets to dry, I think I might break the bare mattress in by watching Thursday's episode of Private Practice - always an upper!!
