I took three pictures today. Wow! Then I realized that I have to start a new folder for a new month in the life of Liam. Today he is 14 months old. Crazy! For some reason, it still feel like each individual month makes a difference.

So here is Liam with his new Nuby "No-Spill" cup. As you may not be able to tell from the picture (in which he has milk splattered all over his face and bib), the name may not be quite accurate.

Right now, sippy cups are the bane of my existence. They're either getting lost, or I'm mopping milk up. I ask my readers: do you know of any sippy cups that truly hold to their claims of "no spill?"

Here's the thing with the Gerber sippy cups. They're GREAT - if you fill it up, you can shake it all you want, and the valve will not let the milk through. The problem is that there is space between the valve and the opening to the spout, so the milk gets caught in there once Liam starts drinking it. The next time he takes the cup and bangs it on the furniture, there's a nice little milk splatter pattern (thank goodness for microfiber - this is exactly why we got it).

I picked up the Nuby to try and didn't realize till I opened it that the spout holds the valve right at the very tip, so you don't have the space between the valve and the spout - the spout IS the valve. I thought, "great!" Well, you see how that worked out! You can tip it upside down, and nothing will come out, but, considering the whole top is soft, if you touch it in any way, it'll compromise that seal.

So, if anyone has had any luck with sippy cups, please let me know :) Otherwise, Gerber will have to do.

I went to Kid to Kid today (the children's consignment store) to see if I could work on Liam's summer wardrobe. No luck. I miss the greatness of that store. It's perfect for kids under 9 months or so. The clothes are usually in pristine condition at those ages because:

-They're not mobile, so they don't wear them out too badly.
-They grow out of them extremely quickly, so they get so many fewer uses.
-The bulk of the clothes you get on impulse and at showers before the baby is born is 0-3 or 3-6 months, so they're worn even less.

It's harder to find those little steals. I realized early on that, while it's nice to have some nice, cute little outfits, there's no sense spending yourself into debt on an entire wardrobe that will only fit for 3 months or so. As I have had to completely replenish his wardrobe each time he hits a new size or the season changes, I've confirmed the notion that I have MUCH better things to spend our money on (or to save our money for) than clothes that won't last. Luckily now, too, one size will start lasting much longer.

I went to Target today and got Liam a good bit of clothes for real cheap. You would never even have guessed that if I didn't tell you. I also got a storage bin and did another round of weeding out. That feels really good - it's nice to be able to close his drawers again!

I just feel bad for any potential younger sister of Liam's - she's going to be wearing lots of boy clothes with bows on her head ;)

The only sippy cups I've found that are truly no-spill are the ones that don't have a soft spout. Richard likes to fling his cups across the kitchen. The spout on the Gerber ones comes out when he does this.

I found that Nuk's work pretty well - but I consider them Kaylee's "baby cups" They are more transitional than anything. I am trying to find one other than the Gerber too - but we have 2 Gerber (soft spout) and then 2 cups that are "insulated" that have Clifford on them.

As far as clothes - I am lucky. A friend of mine has a little girl that wears a size above Kaylee and was born in the same season - we have gotten hand-me-downs several times and it's been great.

Well, there's one sippy cup we have that makes very little mess, but I don't know what brand it is...maybe "Baby Einstein" I think...?

He'd rather drink from a straw for some reason. Maybe it's just easier for him to get his drink on. Of course, we have to be around during that one, or there is some mess (not as much as most sippy cups, though).
