I am currently thankful for the "unsubscribe" option on Facebook. I have begun using it on friends who relentlessly post status updates about the election. I hate to do it - I really do. We're friends on Facebook for a reason, but when I continue to read mean-spirited, blanket statements about anyone and everyone who holds my point of view, I take it personally.
It's not that I am closed to hearing other points of view. It's just that no one's sharing them in a constructive and respectful manner or engaging in civil debate.
Calling everyone who ascribes to my particular political philosophy a liar and an idiot, whether it's outright or implied through a link, just doesn't make me terribly eager to hear what you have to say next, and it doesn't make me all that sympathetic to your cause.
So please. Can we chill?
