I'm all sweaty. My hair is a big puffball from the outside humidity and will require another round with the straightening iron. The good news is that my back window stickers have been refreshed with new ones, and the new car seat is in the car joining Liam's.
I hate that he's not in the middle anymore. They need to make double car seats for infants and toddlers that can both be hooked into the middle. I felt like he was so insulated right smack in the middle of the car like that. I fear so badly getting T-boned on either side with a child in it. There's just not a whole lot of space between the potential other car and my babies. I know both seats are highly innovative in the side-impact safety arena...but really - how much protection can a little plastic and styrofoam really provide against a several-ton piece of metal flying at you at any rate of speed? Ok...I'll quit worrying now and just say it is what it is...we'll just do our best to be safe.
I also don't know that Liam's going to enjoy giving up his prime real estate that gave him such a nice view out the front window. We'll see - it'll get put to the test this afternoon. I will say, though, that I have back my visibility out the rear window, as his seat is huge. In reality it doesn't really hinder me all that much - I've tested it several times to where I know that if I don't see a car in the passenger-side mirror or over my shoulder, a car isn't there. I am a look-over-the-shoulder kinda girl, and I hate relying on mirrors. The seat has just made me rely on them more.
Let me just say that I LOVE THE SNUGRIDE 35!!! Liam's was a Snugride, and in order to get it level, you had to adjust the base before you strapped it in. I can't tell you how many times I put it in, snapped the car seat in to find that it wasn't level, took it back out, adjusted the based, snapped the car seat in to find that it still wasn't level, took it back out, stuffed another towel under it to bring it up some more, repeat. Of course, you also had to get it as tight as can be on each attempt because the tightness of the LATCH belt would affect the level of the base - you couldn't half-ass it with the intention of tightening it fully when you got it to the right level. On this one, you put it in and there's a dial that you turn that raises or lowers the front while it's already strapped in. It took me one try, no towels, and about 3 minutes to install.
Now our back seat is full of car seats.
I came inside to find myself faced with The Dilemma. Liam went down for his nap, but sometime between Andy putting him down and him going to sleep, he pooped. If I wake him up to change him, he will have had about 15 minutes of sleep and will not go back to sleep, leaving him (and thus us) cranky and miserable for the remainder of the day. Or, I can do the thing that opens DFACS cases and leave him lying in his own excrement for a couple hours. What would you do?
I know what I did.
