Liam did pretty well in the pool last year. We thought this year would be even more fun considering he's a year older and loves a good thrill. Not so, apparently. He absolutely hated it. He cried when we tried to take him in, and when he wasn't crying, he just had this general look of misery on his face. We stayed about a half an hour, and he had some ok moments, but overall it was not the pool experience I was hoping for. It's all good - I am sure he'll warm up to it as the summer warms up.
Speaking of the pool, we had our first swim meet on Friday for my adult swim league. I was unsure of the protocol as it compares to the same type meet when I was little. Do you leave your swim cap on throughout the meet? Is it ok to sit on the ground on a towel (I hope so because I did, and I sure felt like I was 9 again).
I thought I was a decent swimmer. The team we swam just happens to, apparently, actively recruit former college swimmers for the 19-29 age group. So here I was, 10 years removed from any type of competitive swimming, plus 10 college pounds, plus 10 baby pounds, trying to hold my own. Luckily it wasn't just me, and neither of my relay teams fared any better.
I'll tell you, though...one dive off the block drove home pretty quickly how much time has passed since age 17. Sad! I would really like to be in the 30-39 group. I really think that they need to divide women between those who have had babies and those who haven't. Or at least add 5 years onto your age if you have.
Also, the thought never even crossed my mind that people might be drinking various amounts of beer in between events.
It's a lot of fun, though. I'm glad I'm doing it. Hopefully this week will be a slightly more fair competition!
Oh, and I will leave you with one final thought. Who thought THESE were a good idea?!?!:

Hahaha....okay, so yeah, Caleb also hated his first trip to the pool (well, actually we have a little baby pool that we put in the back yard and he was okay with that). We've gone two more times this past week and he got a little better each time. So here's hoping your results follow ours.
And that swimsuit is hideous. I'm sure the tan line looks nice, too. Hilary is swimsuit shopping for the upcoming beach trips and it seems there are 4 major categories for women (versus the 1 category for dudes)....you have 1. Bikinis, 2. Tankinis, 3. One piece and 4. whatever that thing is called.
Hideous. Maybe on South Beach or in Rio de Janeiro, where "ugly = chic" but not anywhere else.
