I had my baby shower on Sunday. It was a lot of fun. It brings me back to the days before my wedding and all the fun festivities that go along with that time in your life. It was nice to see a lot of people that I haven't seen in awhile. We got some of the big stuff we needed - the stroller, the Fisher Price Space Saver high chair, the Pack & Play, and the little rocker/bouncer, among other things. It's such a relief. On the other hand, I've realized how much STUFF we are going to have by the time the baby is born, and I am really trying to limit the registry to things that we really need. I also know how much STUFF we are going to have AFTER he is born and as he begins growing.
Babies R Us is great. Target has a pretty strict return policy. I registered at Target for a Diaper Genie and then realized that I wanted the Diaper Genie II so registered for that without making sure the first one was off the registry. I got both. I also did not realize that I was registered for this video monitor thing (it must have been on the little auto-registry thing), and my mother-in-law ended up getting it for us. I then forgot to take the non-video monitor off the registries and ended up getting one from Target. So I have all these items from Target that I can't return because I don't have receipts, but Babies R Us took them for store credit. I was able to trade it all in for a Baby Bjorn, which is $80 I probably wouldn't have otherwise spent.
I was originally opposed to the video monitor. I still kind of am...I don't intend to sit there and watch the baby 24/7 while he is sleeping...that'll be MY time...but then I figure now that at least I can check periodically to make sure he is still breathing without having to go all the way to his room. And in the meantime, I can spy on people ;) Just kidding.
Andy created a playlist for the baby on his iPod (which means I have to be pretty diligent about balancing it with MY music!). We take his giant headphones and lie them flat on my belly. It's crazy how active the baby gets - he'll start kicking right at the headphones. He either loves it or hates it. I talked to the midwife about it because, though usually not too quick to worry about things, I was afraid that we might be doing irreparable psychological harm if he hates it. She didn't seem to think there was much to worry about.
Well, I am 26 weeks now, so we are looking at about 14 more. That doesn't sound like a lot, but I just can't WAIT! Hopefully the holidays will speed things up a little bit. I just want to meet my baby.
